A recent study led by Nafis B. Eghrari at Case Western Reserve University revealed that non-elderly adults with chronic low back pain prescribed gabapentin face more than double the risk of developing dementia compared to those not using the drug. Analyzing data from over 1.4 million adults, the research found a notable increase in both dementia (110%) and mild cognitive impairment (150%) among younger patients. These findings highlight the need for physicians to closely monitor cognitive health in gabapentin users, while further investigations are warranted to explore underlying mechanisms.
