UCI Health joined the national “Dress in Blue Day” campaign on March 10 to raise awareness about the rising incidence of colorectal cancer among adults under 50. Chief of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Jason Samarasena, MD, MBA, emphasized that colorectal cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related death in this age group, with incidence climbing approximately 3% annually.
The campaign also conveyed updated screening guidelines, encouraging all adults aged 45 and older to undergo colonoscopy or at-home fecal testing, underscoring that early detection can lead to less invasive treatments and improved outcomes. As a leader in gastroenterology and hepatology, UCI Health remains committed to educating both patients and providers about colorectal cancer risk, prevention, and compassionate care.
