Lyranda, an over-the-counter lozenge for cold sore treatment, is now available in the United States through Amazon.

Lyranda is an antiviral that helps to stop reproduction, aids in bolstering the immune system, and promotes faster wound healing.

In a clinical trial, 61.7% of patients treated with Lyranda were healed and symptom-free within 5 days compared to only 10.9% of those receiving other treatments, according to the manufacturer. The lozenges were also found to reduce incidence.

The "pleasant tasting" lozenge formulation eliminates the need for patients to apply topical creams directly to lesions. This removes a barrier to treatment adherence by avoiding the need to touch cold sores.
