A recent study found that unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals infected with the omicron variant of COVID-19 had a 50% greater risk of developing new-onset type 2 diabetes compared to those who tested negative. The study examined the postinfectious risk of type 2 diabetes following SARS-CoV-2 infection during periods of delta and omicron variant predominance in a highly vaccinated population in Singapore.
