Obesity significantly increases the risk of postmenopausal breast cancer, especially in women with cardiovascular disease (CVD), according to a comprehensive study of 168,527 women from Europe. Over a median follow-up of nearly 11 years, each 4.5 kg/m² increase in body mass index (BMI) corresponded to a 31% higher breast cancer risk in those with CVD, compared to 13% in those without. The study underscores the combined hazard of obesity and CVD and indicates systemic factors like inflammation may contribute to this heightened risk, warranting integrated prevention efforts.
