A comprehensive Swedish study involving nearly 6 million adults has revealed a significant correlation between poor dental health and an elevated risk of gastric cancer. Over an average follow-up of 6.36 years, results indicated that individuals with severe gum disease faced a 25% higher risk of developing cardia gastric cancer. Furthermore, tooth count was found to play a crucial role; those with fewer than 14 teeth exhibited a 55% increased risk of gastric cancer overall. Researchers suggest that inflammation and oral health may significantly influence cancer development.
