In a UK Biobank study of over 85,000 adults, women achieved a 30% reduction in coronary heart disease (CHD) risk with 250 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) weekly, while men required 530 minutes for similar benefit. Over 8 years, women also saw greater mortality reduction with established CHD (hazard ratio, 0.30 vs 0.81 in men). Each additional 30 minutes of MVPA reduced CHD risk by 3% in women and 2% in men. Researchers concluded that women derive greater cardiovascular protection from equivalent activity levels, supporting sex-specific prevention strategies.
