Recent research suggests that heavy alcohol consumption may increase the risk of multiple cardiovascular diseases, while the effects of low to moderate drinking remain uncertain. Observational data hints at potential benefits from light alcohol intake, but newer genetic and clinical trial data challenge these findings. Studies also reveal the complex relationship between alcohol consumption and blood pressure, coronary artery disease, stroke risk, atrial fibrillation, and alcoholic cardiomyopathy. The significant uncertainty remains regarding any cardiovascular advantage of light to moderate drinking, with multiple research gaps identified.
