In a retrospective analysis of 1,475 polytrauma patients undergoing whole-body computed tomography, researchers found incidental findings in 83.9% of cases, with approximately one-quarter requiring follow-up, further evaluation, or treatment, and 4.9% representing potentially life-threatening conditions. The proposed 5-category Incidental FindingsāReporting and Data System classification system standardizes reporting and clinical prioritization of incidental findings, with the aim of improving diagnostic consistency, care coordination, and resource utilization.
