In this nationwide Danish registry study of 1,862 adults with T1a renal cell carcinoma, image-guided ablation demonstrated a progression risk comparable to surgical resection, despite a slightly higher rate of local recurrence (2.4% vs 1.2%), with most recurrences amenable to retreatment. Ablation was associated with shorter hospital stays and fewer 30-day posttreatment hospital contacts, supporting its role as a less invasive alternative to surgery with similar long-term oncologic control in appropriately selected patients.
