U.S. influenza activity is at or near its highest level in at least 15 years and continues to rise, according to the CDC.
At least 24 million influenza illnesses, 310,000 hospitalizations, and 13,000 deaths have been reported this season, the CDC stated in its weekly flu surveillance report. Influenza activity remains elevated nationwide.
For the week ending February 1, 7.8% of outpatient visits were for influenza-like illness, compared with 7% the previous week and 5.8% the week before that, according to the report.
Among emergency department visits, 8% included an influenza diagnosis, while 1% were diagnosed with COVID-19, and 0.5% with respiratory syncytial virus.
Norovirus outbreaks have also been high this winter, according to CDC data.
