A study involving 549 chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients and 19 healthy older adults revealed that patients with COPD walk slower and exhibit changes in gait as the disease progresses. The study assessed walking performance, step frequency, and variability of walking patterns, providing valuable insights on real-world walking patterns and suggesting that walking speed and step frequency could serve as measurable indicators of COPD progression.
