In this nationwide retrospective cohort study of Taiwan’s National Health Insurance database, adults with pneumoconiosis had a significantly higher incidence of cataract than age- and sex-matched controls without pneumoconiosis, even after adjusting for major comorbidities. Across nearly 20,000 patients with pneumoconiosis followed for a mean of over 7 years, pneumoconiosis was associated with a 22% increased risk of cataract, with elevated risk observed consistently across age, sex, and comorbidity subgroups, while systemic corticosteroid use was not independently associated with cataract development
