A study involving 28,828 middle-aged Swedish adults showed that asthma is linked to higher rates of comorbid conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and autoimmune diseases. Participants aged 50 to 64 indicated that those with asthma had a 30% greater likelihood of hypertension and a 42% increase in diabetes odds. Additionally, systemic inflammation markers such as C-reactive protein and hemoglobin A1c levels were elevated in asthma patients. Results imply that individuals with asthma may face significant health challenges beyond respiratory issues, particularly if lung function is impaired.
