A study conducted among 104 patients who failed maximum medical management and were scheduled for functional endoscopic sinus surgery revealed a potential link between vitamin D deficiency and increased severity of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis (CRSwNP). The researchers found a significant negative correlation between serum vitamin D levels and CRSwNP severity as measured by the Lund-Mackay score and the total nasal polyp score. They proposed that measuring serum vitamin D levels may serve as an adjunct biomarker for assessing CRSwNP severity and emphasized the importance of exploring therapeutic strategies targeting vitamin D levels in this patient population.
