Researchers investigated clinical outcomes and decision-making criteria for intraocular lens exchange in patients with homogeneous intraocular lens calcification, and provided evidence-based guidelines. The study's findings indicated that a straylight value of 1.56 log(s) is a crucial threshold for recommending surgery, and may lead to significant improvements in contrast sensitivity, visual acuity, and patient-reported outcomes. Patients who declined surgery showed no significant changes in straylight or visual symptoms. The researchers also suggested essential evidence for guiding discussions with patients and making informed treatment decisions.
