Researchers identified significant challenges in the management of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) in a recent large-scale global survey. Patients, health care providers, and clinic staff reported logistical, financial, and psychological hurdles that were associated with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) therapy. Findings showed a need for clinicians to provide clearer treatment expectations for patients after the researchers found that patients expected vision improvement with treatment. Strategies such as appointment reminders, transportation support, and enhanced patient education to improve nAMD management were also highlighted. Data collection during COVID-19 and considerations for patients' healthcare access and literacy were noted by the researchers.
