After public disproval of the announcement made on April 21 to defund the Women’s Health Initiative study, the Department of Health and Human Services announced the decision of its reversal.
“While NIH initially exceeded its internal targets for contract reductions, we are now working to fully restore funding to these essential research efforts," said Andrew Nixon, of HHS.
HHS Secretary of Health, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., also took to social media the night of April 21 to denounce the termination of WHI. “NIH Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya himself used this study in this own research. We all recognize that this project is mission critical for women’s health.”
As of press time, no statement from HHS or the Women’s Health Initiative has been released.
