Research led by Lene von Kappelgaard from Copenhagen University Hospital reveals that women with multiple sclerosis (MS) who underwent assisted reproduction have more than double the risk of relapse during the postpartum period, independent of disease-modifying therapy used during pregnancy. The study analyzed 111 women, noting an annualized relapse rate (ARR) that significantly increased from 0.14 pre-pregnancy to 0.33 three months postpartum. Maternal age and lack of therapy before pregnancy were linked to improved outcomes.
