Prenatal use of acetaminophen has been linked to an increased risk of neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD and autism spectrum disorder, according to a systematic review involving 46 studies. While 27 studies noted positive associations, the quality varied, with higher-quality studies showing more significant risks. Large cohort studies pointed to modest increases in ADHD diagnoses, and biomarker studies reinforced these tendencies. However, factors such as maternal illness and study design discrepancies also complicate these findings, underscoring the need for careful consideration in clinical practice.
