A study analyzing cervical cancer screening of over 2.1 million women in China revealed that women aged 65 and older have a significantly higher risk of cervical disease, contradicting the common practice of ceasing screening at this age. Conducted between 2017 and 2023, the research highlights that older women showed higher rates of hr-HPV infections and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN2+) compared to younger women. This suggests the need for reassessment of screening policies, especially considering the implications of aging and HPV infection persistence.
