A new study discussed the challenges in recruiting Black people for Parkinson's exercise programs in the U.S., emphasizing the importance of movement as medicine for Parkinson's patients. Efforts to engage Hispanic and ethnically Chinese communities have shown some success, but similar endeavors with the Black community have faced significant obstacles.
These challenges are exacerbated by underdiagnosis, doctor bias, and concerns about job security and privacy among Black individuals. The need for trust-building and Black-led education and recruitment initiatives is highlighted.
