A recent multicenter study demonstrated that the use of germicidal ultraviolet (GUV) light in long-term care facilities led to a 12% reduction in weekly respiratory infections among older adults. Conducted across four facilities in South Australia over 110 weeks, the double-crossover trial involved 211,952 bed-days. Despite the lack of significant short-term impact per study cycle, longitudinal analysis showed improved outcomes in zones with active GUV. This highlights GUV's potential for reducing acute respiratory infections in vulnerable populations.
