A study from Henan Provincial People’s Hospital evaluated a new model for predicting mortality in patients with sepsis secondary to pneumonia. Analyzing over 1,300 patients admitted to the ICU between 2017 and 2022, it was found to outperform traditional scoring systems (SOFA and APACHE II) with an AUC of 0.80 in validation. Key factors influencing mortality included elevated septic shock rates and specific laboratory values. This model, available as a web-based calculator, helps identify high-risk patients but requires further validation through multicenter prospective studies.
