A recent study led by Javier Louro from Karolinska Institutet found that adult survivors of childhood cancer have a 58% increased risk of developing severe COVID-19 compared to the general population. Although these survivors had a vaccination rate of 90.3%, they were 9% less likely to contract the virus. Risk factors included being over 50 years old, diagnosed during ages 15-19, and having a history of solid tumors. The study emphasizes the need for targeted interventions for this vulnerable group during health crises.
