Researchers in Queensland, Australia have identified different biological characteristics of two melanoma types: nevus-associated melanoma, which arises from moles, and de novo melanoma, which forms independently. A study involving 38,801 adults revealed that a high mole count significantly raises the risk of developing nevus-associated melanoma, with males being more affected than females. Sunburns increase the risk for both types, although nevus-associated cases are typically diagnosed at a younger age and have thinner tumors compared to de novo cases.
