In this systematic review and meta-analysis of 11 studies including more than 600,000 patients with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), researchers found that HS was associated with a significantly increased overall cancer risk (odds ratio 1.82), with higher rates of gastrointestinal, head and neck, hematologic, and respiratory malignancies, including Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. These findings suggest that chronic systemic inflammation and associated comorbidities in HS may contribute to malignancy risk, underscoring the need for vigilant long-term monitoring and further studies adjusting for confounding factors such as smoking and obesity.
