This scoping review is hypothesis-generating. The findings are practice-informing and suggest physicians should consider allergic contact dermatitis as a potential contributor in patients with skin of color who have persistent or treatment-resistant atopic dermatitis. Because the evidence is based on heterogeneous and largely observational studies, clinicians should individualize decisions regarding patch testing and counseling on allergen avoidance rather than alter management protocols.
