A recent international study has established a cardiac magnetic resonance imaging model to predict 'functional heart age' in patients with common risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and obesity. By analyzing data from 563 subjects across five centers, the researchers identified a relationship between obesity severity and premature heart aging, offering equations to communicate heart assessment changes with aging. The study also documented age-related changes across the four cardiac chambers, highlighting potential for risk factor interventions and guidelines adjustment.
