Male patients with inflammatory bowel disease have a nearly doubled risk of developing ischemic heart disease (IHD), while female patients exhibit a lower risk. A retrospective cohort study in Israel followed 14,768 IBD patients, identifying a significant association between IBD and IHD events, particularly in male patients. The study suggests close monitoring for additional risk factors and prioritizing a healthy lifestyle for those with IBD to mitigate the likelihood of developing IHD.
