Outcomes of Anaphylaxis vs Cardiac OHCA: New Insights
Researchers have found that out-of-hospital cardiac arrests caused by anaphylaxis are associated with better neurological outcomes and higher survival rates compared to those caused by cardiac conditions.
A recent study published in BMJ Open compared the neurologic outcomes and survival rates of patients experiencing out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA) caused by anaphylaxis (OHCA-A) versus cardiac causes (OHCA-C). Results showed that patients with OHCA-A were twice as likely to achieve favorable neurologic outcomes at 1 month compared to those with OHCA-C. The study emphasized the need for aggressive resuscitation and early intervention for patients with OHCA-A to optimize neurologic outcomes.
