Urinary incontinence is a prevalent issue among postmenopausal women, often arising from weakened pelvic muscles due to hormonal changes. A systematic review of 15 randomized controlled trials involving 895 participants found that pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) significantly improves both urinary continence and muscle function. The analysis emphasized the importance of the FITT framework for effective PFMT protocols, noting variability across studies in reporting exercise details. Lead author Magdalena Piernicka, MSc, suggests that further standardization and research are necessary for optimizing treatment.
